These baskets are made from plant fibers, giving them a wonderfully natural smell and feel.
Banana fiber is the fiber of the layered trunks of agriculturally cultivated banana plants. The intense brown color develops naturally when the fibers are dried in the sun for about a week. The individual strands are then rolled into the characteristic, approximately 6 mm thick strands. Only old, dying banana plants are used for this material. This gives these plants a second life as a dimensionally stable and robust raw material for many handmade baskets.
